Avery Cup
FORMAT: Pro sets – first to 8. Regular scoring. If the score is tied at 7 all, play a 12 point tiebreaker (first to 7 by 2). Men’s doubles and Women’s doubles matches are played first, followed by two Mixed Doubles matches, with the #1 players and #2 players paired. Each game won counts as a point. If, at the end of all regular play, the score is tied, the #1 women and #2 men from each team will play a 10 point tiebreaker, following USTA rules. Score sheets will be provided and should be given to Ignus or Ronel at the end of the matches, or emailed to Ignus by the winning team captain. Weekly updates will be provided.
James Gartland, Averil Glover, Donna Wells, and Chris Saillant
TIME: Warm-ups (including serves) start at 6:30, withplay beginning promptly at 7:00. HOWEVER, IF YOU
ARE SCHEDULED TO PLAY ON COURTS 1 & 2, warm-ups will need to start about 6:45 or later due to youth lessons. Please try to limit warm-ups on these courts to 15 minutes. Be on time for your matches. Don’t arrive 5 minutes before match time and expect a 20 minute warm-up. For every 5 minutes a player is late after the match start time, the opposing team MAY require your team to forfeit a game. After 20 minutes, that match may be forfeited, but the player may play in the mixed doubles.
IN CASE of RAIN: If the first set of matches has been completed for all teams when rain begins and captains agree play cannot continue, the team that is ahead wins. If tied, a tiebreaker will be played prior to the next match. If matches are not completed when rain causes matches to be halted, no points will be awarded.
SUBS: A list of subs will be provided to all players. Players are responsible for securing their own subs. Please let the opposing team captain know who your sub will be, as they will need to approve your selection. For the
playoffs, any subs needed will be secured by the Avery Cup committee.
Charlie Pleasants, Sue Hardesty, Christy Smith, and Chuck Fergeson
BALLS: Balls for all regular season matches will be provided to team captains at the first match. Each team will be responsible for providing one can for each match. If the captain cannot play, he/she must designate someone to provide a can.
COURTS: Courts will be reserved at Flaherty and Heritage High School. At Flaherty we will use Courts 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Not sure which courts at Heritage will be used, but there will be signs posted.
